Few not-for-profit organizations have
the resources to undertake massive, multimillion-dollar
redevelopment projects. LISC is the exception to the rule because it
benefits from both local and national funding, with the added
capacity to leverage these resources through matching funds and
additional CDC funds. Over the past 20 years, South Florida LISC has
fostered programs that have turned around the lives and
neighborhoods of thousands of South Florida's residents.

Signature Projects Portfolio
South Florida LISC embarked
on a bold new strategy five years ago to bring local activity to
scale. in 2001, we introduced our Signature Projects Portfolio
concept, comprehensive community development of scale and
impact, utilizing a project team approach. Along with the
assistance of our partners, we are starting to realize the fruit
of those endeavors.

Technical
Assistance
LISC assists in identifying
the opportunity, putting the development team together, helping
develop the equity and debt financing pools and serving as
development technical advisers for the team. This TechTeam ™
approach has resulted in a portfolio of significant
comprehensive projects.
We have served as “deal makers” and consultants on several
projects in development and have $600 million of
potential project pipeline for the next two (2) years that will
result in new homes, neighborhood schools, a childcare center,
vital commercial and retail centers, jobs, community facilities,
and infrastructure improvements.
The South
Florida LISC Community Development Training Institute
The goal of the South Florida Community Development Training
Institute 2006 is to prepare a pool of professionals that will
help advance the community development industry in South
Florida. With emphasis on training, the program
seeks to improve the skills of existing staff within local CDCs
in order to enhance the capacity of the organizations. The
Training Institute targets its programs to a cross section
of Community Developers -- including CDC and CBO practitioners,
affordable housing developers, financial institutions,
government program officers, and others undertaking and
supporting neighborhood revitalization and community-based
economic development. Training is an essential tool for
building the technical skills of CDC staff and assuring that
CDCs stay abreast of new developments in the field.

CDRLS
The Community Development
and Restoration Loan System
(CDRLS) is a comprehensive financing delivery
system that provides technical assistance, project development
and financing to neighborhood based groups to develop and
restore their communities. We know that non-profit borrowers,
CDCs and other neighborhood groups do not always have the
resources to carry out the large visions they have for their
communities. We also know that many private lenders have a
desire to assist these groups but are constrained by
underwriting guidelines, neighborhood capacity and sources of
equity and “soft money.” The LISC Loan System bridges the gap
between lenders and neighborhood groups and their visions. |
